Seth Aaron Rogen (; born April 15, ) is a Canadian actor, comedian, and filmmaker. Known primarily for his comedic leading man roles in films, the accolades he has received include nominations for three Golden Globe Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Independent Spirit Award.
Originally a stand-up comedian in Vancouver, Rogen moved to Los Angeles for a part in Judd Apatow's series Freaks and Geeks in , and got a part on Apatow's sitcom Undeclared in , which also hired him as a writer. Rogen landed a job as a staff writer on the final season of Da Ali G Show (), for which the writing team was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. Apatow subsequently guided him toward a film career.
His first movie appearance was a minor role in Donnie Darko (), and he had a supporting part in Apatow's directorial debut, The Year-Old Virgin (), which he co-produced. He had leading roles in Apatow's comedies Knocked Up () and Funny People (). His parents, Sandy (Belogus) and Mark Rogen, worked for nonprofit organizations; he has one older sister, Dayna. Rogen began performing stand-up comedy as a teenager, crafting his routines at parties and clubs. He won the Vancouver Amateur Comedy Contest when he was 16 years old. Rogen left high school when a casting call landed him a part in director Judd Apatow's new prime-time comedy-drama Freaks and Geeks (). He played Ken, a burnout with a deadpan sense of humor, in an ensemble of young actors just beginning their careers.
