Smaragden höör

In the middle of the Swedish region Skåne lies the town of Höör. Every time I saw the name &#;Höör&#; on a road sign, I wondered how to pronounce it and what there is to see. The answer to my first question is simple, you just say &#;hurr&#;. The answer to my second question requires more explanation. I discovered that Höör is one of the most beautifully situated villages in Skåne and that you can go for wonderful hikes there. In this article I share three beautiful hiking trails in and around Höör in Skåne and I tell you about other sights and where to stay.

I will start this blog with some more information about Höör. As mentioned, Höör is located in the central part of Skåne and is surrounded by nature reserves. This makes it perhaps one of the most beautifully situated towns in Skåne. You can easily reach Höör by train from Malmö or by car. The journey by train will take you about minutes, the journey by car about 45 minutes from Malmö. As soon as you enter Sweden via the bridges from Denmark, Höör is a great first stop after your long journey, to stretch your legs and/or for a first overnight stay.

Name

The town was previously known as Hørg (in the 12th century), Hørgh (in the 15th century), and later Hør and Hör. The present, unusual spelling with double "ö" was implemented by the Swedish postal service at the beginning of the 20th century. At that time, it was a common practice in Sweden to write här (for here) in the address of letters to be delivered within the same town. In order to avoid confusion between letters to be delivered locally and those intended for Hör, the postal service changed the town's name to Höör.[2]

Höör railway station is located on the northern side of the town and a five-minute walk into the central square. It is on the line between Kristianstad and Malmö, where there are frequent commuter trains running beyond Sweden to Copenhagen in Denmark.
