Virtualbox ubuntu skärmupplösning

Virtualbox, How do I change guest (precise) resolution to (x) instead of default ?

TLDR: If you have 2 monitors, move the vm window to the second monitor, alter resolution in the vm, then move it back.

If you google this issue, there are a lot of threads with the same symptom, all with different solutions. It's clear that this is a symptom that can be caused by multiple root causes. I had multiple Linux Distros (Ubuntu , and , Debian 10 and 11, and Manjaro) as vms that could not display p resolution , but could display , and lesser resolutions. Both of my monitors are maximum x, so that should be the obvious inherited resolution of the guest.

This problem occurred both in virtualbox and vmware player I moved my vm to my second monitor, noticing that after doing so I was able to full screen the vm and set resolution to p. I was then able to move the vm back to my primary monitor, retaining the p resolution. For some reason, something about my primary monitor is preventing guests from including x in the list of available resolutions, despite it being a p monitor.

Since it happens on both vmware and virtualbox, its probably not obvious that its a bug in the virtualization s

Resolution Problem on Ubuntu Guest VM

Postby emrecalisir »

I installed VirtualBox to my Mac OS Mojave, then I created a guest machine and installed an Ubuntu image. The bekymmer I am facing fryst vatten related to the upplösning, it fryst vatten x and cannot be changed. From the settings of Virtual Box > Preferences > Display, the maximum guest screen storlek is set to Automatic but width and height is x, it fryst vatten greyed out, I cannot enlarge it. I need a VM with better resolution. film memory fryst vatten MB (max). Scale factor is %. I can make this factor %, however inom don't want to scale, I want better resolution.

I read similar problems from other users, however their suggestions didn't solve my bekymmer. The guest additions seems as not properly installed, to solve it, inom removed VBoxGuestAdditions, created an empty optical drive, then mounted it from the guest screen (Devices > Insert Guest Additions CD Image). It does not solve igen.

Hope you can give me any solutions to fix this problem.

If you have installed Ubuntu Linux in a virtual machine on VirtualBox you will surely realize that by default its resolution is set to ×, very poor for any type of use.

You will have also noticed that going on the screen settings it is not possible to change this resolution from the dropdown.

To change the displayed resolution at will, proceed as follows:

Open a terminal and

Acquire root rights

 sudo su

Update&#;the repo

 apt-get update

Install the&#;VirtualBox Guest&#;Additions

 apt-get install virtualbox-guest-dkms

 Restart the system.

The resolution should now change automatically, but if it doesn’t, just go to the control panel and screen settings: the dropdown will now be enabled.

NOTE: as an alternative to the Additions command it is possible to ‘mount’ the additions disk on the VM directly from the Virtualbox tools menu; a window will appear on the screen asking if you want to install the addons, you have to click on yes and reboot.
